Slumdog Fight!

slumdogmom1“Let’s get ready to rumble!!!”

Rubina Ali’s father put the child star up for auction and the highest bidder was some sheikh will to offer £200,000.  Well yesterday the situation came to a head when her real mother Kurshida Devade and Munni Qureshi screamed and slapped each other in Mumbai, India. The catfight broke out as Rubina’s dad Rafiq was being questioned by police after Khurshida filed a complaint about child-trafficking. She left the family seven years ago.

Rafiq denies reports he demanded £200,000 from a Dubai sheikh for the nine-year-old star of the Slumdog Millionaire movie.

“Slumdog Millionnaire” kid for sale

slumdog_millionaire_oscar13

Here’s the story according to News of The World:

In a bid to escape India’s real-life slums, Rafiq Qureshi put angel-faced darling of the Oscars Rubina up for adoption, demanding millions of rupees worth £200,000.

As he offered the shocking deal to the News of the World’s undercover fake sheik this week, Rafiq declared: “I have to consider what’s best for me, my family and Rubina’s future.” Rafiq tried to blame Hollywood bosses for forcing him to put his daughter up for SALE. As he tried to fix the illegal adoption deal, real-life slum dweller Rafiq declared: “We’ve got nothing out of this film.” Then, almost embarrassed to speak it out loud, he whispered to an accomplice the price tag he has put on his innocent young daughter: “It’s £200,000!”

What a mess? – Ted Failon

failon

Manila Philippines – (UPDATE 3) The wife of television news anchor Ted Failon died at the hospital on Thursday evening, a day after she was shot in the head inside their home in Quezon City, her attending physician said.

Trinidad Etong, 44, expired due to complications from penetrating cranial missile injury, or a bullet wound to the head, at the New Era General Hospital at 8:50 p.m., said Doctor Adonis Gascon.

Gascon told reporters that there was a “less than five percent” chance for survival among patients who suffer gun shot wounds to the head.

Doctors tried to revive her for 15 minutes by applying electric shocks, he said.

The family was asked whether the doctors should continue with the emergency procedure, and they agreed to have it terminated upon seeing that the patient had “flat-lined,’’ Gascon said.

Earlier, at around 8:15 p.m., Delfin Lee, a friend of Failon’s, told reporters that doctors had started performing ‘’emergency treatment’’ on Trina after a drop in her blood pressure.

“She took a turn for the worse at around 8:30 p.m. or earlier,’’ Gascon said.

Etong expired shortly after police said they would no longer force Failon to go to the Quezon City prosecutor’s office for inquest proceedings.

Before she died, Etong’s relatives at the hospital refused to submit her to a paraffin test, said Senior Superintendent Franklin Mabanag chief of the Quezon City police Criminal Investigation and Detective Unit (CIDU).

A paraffin test determines whether or not there are traces of gunpowder on a person’s hand.

Failon, his sisters-in-law Mean and Pamela Arteche, and several house could face obstruction of justice charges for tampering with the crime scene and not reporting immediately that Etong had been shot, police said.

The Arteche sisters were brought to the Quezon City prosecutor’s office for inquest proceedings shortly before Failon’s wife died.

Failon claimed he discovered his wife bloodied inside their daughter’s bathroom on Tuesday.

The primetime news anchor underwent a paraffin test on Wednesday. The result was negative.

Mean Arteche went hysterical when informed of her sister’s death by telephone, saying she could not forgive police for taking them from her sister’s deathbed.

“Hindi ko kayo mapapatawad [I will never forgive you],” she told police. With reports from Thea Alberto, INQUIRER.net; Nikko Dizon, Dona Pazzibugan, Kristine Alave, and Julie Aurelio, Philippine Daily Inquirer

Holy Week Kalokohan in Boracay – Bad Kalokohan

Though fewer celebs trooped to Boracay this year, the country’s famous Holy Week destination still had its share of controversies.

As early as Lunes Santo, a former actor-model had a scuffle with one of the security guards at the D’Mall. Andrew Wolff was charged with robbery for allegedly snatching the .38 caliber revolver of Rodulfo Norbe.

He was detained for a few hours, then had a settlement with the complainant the next day. Andrew was spotted partying with friends last April 9.

Another broil involving 2008 Bb. Pilipinas-World Danielle Castaño took place last Tuesday, April 7, at Hey Jude bar. In a report aired by 24 Oras, Lhar Santiago interviewed the beauty queen.

It Ain't my fault!

Danielle related, “He went up to me, then he started screaming at me tapos sinampal niya ako. Hindi naman ‘ata tama ‘yon. Hinagis ko sa kanya yung bag ko. It was self-defense. Pagkahagis ko sa kanya, he went up to me again and he was trying to punch me so I kicked him.”

Holy Wednesday was relatively quiet, and then Maundy Thursday saw a mild furor.

Kalokohan girls

Rochelle Pangilinan and Aifha Medina did it just for Kikay!

Sexbomb girls Rochelle Pangilinan and Aifha Medina reportedly had a heated confrontation with a guy. Their manager Joy Cancio issued a statement to PEP, clearing the names of her wards: “Hindi sila basagulero.”

Some stars opted to enjoy the break devoid of any showbiz issue. PEP’s correspondent reported: “Ang hirap nila hanapin. Nagtatago sila sa araw, nagpa-party sa gabi.”

Others joined the religious festivities of the island and, as much as possible, stayed away from the PEParazzo. - Philippine Entertainment Portal

Pia is here to the rescue!

Senator Pia S. Cayetano today joined calls to demand a public apology from a top Hong Kong publication and one of its columnists over a recent opinion article that made a racial slur against Filipinos over the country’s right to claim the Spratly Islands.

Cayetano, chair of the Senate committee on social justice, said Filipinos deserve no less than a formal public apology for the opinion piece entitled “The War At Home” written by Chip Tsao which appeared on the March 27 edition of the widely-circulated “HK Magazine.”

Tsao’s column depicted the Philippines as a “nation of servants” not worthy of claiming the Spratys from China, as the latter employs hundreds of thousands of Filipino domestic helpers on very low wages.

“Instead of contributing to intelligent discussions on ways to resolve the Spratlys dispute, Tsao only succeeded in eliciting hatred and sowing more confusion not only among Filipinos but maybe even among his fellow Chinese who are not aware of the intricacies of the issue.”

“Let’s not dignify Tsao’s views by not stooping down to his level. We shouldn’t allow ourselves to be bullied by people with narrow minds like him. HK Magazine and Tsao must apologize for insulting Filipinos, and they should pledge not to commit this mistake again.”

“Our being a poor nation does not diminish the validity of our historical and legal claim to the Spratlys. In the proper forum, this dispute will eventually be threshed out and resolved. Ignorance, hatred and racial bias are the last things we need in approaching this long-standing controversy.”

“Our claim to the Spratlys is as valid as the other claims being pushed by other nations. It does not mean that we’re disregarding the claims of others. We respect their claim inasmuch as they should acknowledge ours.”

Cayetano added that should Tsao make good on his whimsical threat to fire her Filipino househelp over the Spratlys dispute, then she’s confident that other employers in Hong Kong, including foreign expatriates and fellow Filipinos, would be more than willing to take her in.

“I’ll personally appeal on my Filipino and foreigner friends based in Hong Kong to hire her. I’m sure there are many more enlightened minds out there willing to take her in. Filipino domestic helpers are very much in demand in Hong Kong precisely because of their efficiency and positive ethic at work.”

“We should be proud that millions of OFWs are able to serve the world, whether as managers, laborers, caregivers or medical prefessionals. There’s nothing to be ashamed of as long as we’re earning an honest living without having to step on the dignity of others.”
